tops knots and easter baskets

We happily got ready for Easter by filling the kiddos baskets and coloring eggs Saturday night. I think Finn's basket is my favorite basket we've done yet.  We did run into our first hurdle of sharing with Finn today. Kensington was so happy to see what was in Finn's basket and immediately was smitten when she saw his BlaBla Wolf doll. She's not quite understanding that it is in fact Finnley's and not hers and she's totally giving us the guilt trip by asking, "But what about me?" And of course she uses her sweet sad, poor me voice. Little stinker.

I was so excited about Kensi's basket too and got really bummed out about it 2 weeks ago when her Secret Garden BabyLit book was sold out and we got put on backorder. So instead we opted for Wolfie the Bunny by Ame Dyckman. This book is new this year and very cute. On top of doing a book swap, Kensi's tutu also didn't make it in time. Mama fail nĂºmero dos. So I totally cheated and grabbed one of her other tutus for the sake of filling her basket. She'll be excited in about a week when the real items start arriving.

This year instead of boiling our eggs I baked them in a cupcake pan at 325 degrees F for 30 minutes. It works like a charm and the eggs come out perfectly. {I suggest doing them in batches of 12 at a time, adding more messes with the baking time). When we were ready to dye our eggs tonight Kensi was over the moon excited. Mike set everything up for her and she was able to drop each color tablet into the vinegar. Kensi couldn't believe how the eggs changed color each time she put one into a cup. A little science experiment. I don't know who was more excited about it, Kensi or my nerdy engineer hubby.

This morning when Kensi woke up all she wanted to do was go downstairs to find her eggs. When I was little my parents always hid the hard boiled eggs throughout the living room and that was my favorite egg hunt.
It was so much fun to carry on that tradition here and watch Kensi grow with excitement as she found each egg. She enjoyed it so much she kept a dozen eggs out and continued to hide them and find them herself throughout the day.
We hope all your Easter celebrations were fun and memorable!!!

busy

In October I knew I would be closing my etsy shop for a few months while I took the time to spend with Finnley and adjusted to having two kiddos. This past month I knew I needed to start get things in order to open the shop again. But I'm not at all sorry that it will still be a few more weeks. We've been busy making memories. I have loved being able to give my full attention to Kensi and Finn and watching them interact together. This has always been my dream, to stay at home withy kids and watch them grow and it's amazing.
See...I can't ever be sorry for spending time with these nuggets.
We've also been focusing on house projects and trying to figure out exactly what we want to do this year with our budget. I can't believe how quickly time is going, it seems to go even faster when there's a baby around. I mean seriously it's nearly April! What the heck??? March is flying by quicker than I ever expected and holidays are sneaking up on me and I'm totally not prepared at all this year for any of them!!! Let's hope I can get it together for Easter. Which by the way, how are the basket fillings coming along? Oh Joy has been sharing some fabulous basket ideas on Instagram, but I shouldn't be too surpirised....pretty much everything she comes up with is pretty darn fabulous!

easter baskets: round 3

I’m so excited to actually fill both a girl and boy basket this year!!! For starters I decided to do away with Kensi's large Pottery Barn basket. It's too big, way too big. What was I thinking? This year we opted to get both the kiddos much smaller baskets. I thought it would be fun to find a different type of basket and after much searching I found these adorable wire beauties at one of my favorite local shops.

For the last year I’ve had to keep telling myself to not be afraid of color. I’ve really attached myself to gray and even started feeling gray because there was so much around me. So over the last year Mike and I have tried to incorporate pops of color within our neutral rooms. More or less {okay more} because I’m constantly changing my mind, like all the time. Any-who, when I found these baskets I really wanted them to be different than the regular run of the mill wicker easter basket like the one I had originally bought for Kensi. I love the shape of these baskets, the fact they’re vintage and they go with our decor, but because they are pretty plain in color and spring is the season to pop some colors into our home, I’m playing with the idea of spraying these baskets with some paint and filling them with craft paper filler. Either way I. absolutely. adore. them.
Who would have thought egg baskets really do make for the most adorable easter baskets?
I think Easter baskets are such a fun way to bring in new and exciting items for the littles and it doesn’t always have to be Easter themed with bunnies and chicks. I did start a tradition with Kensi that each year she would get a small, very small bunny in her basket. It’s something my mom did with me and I was so excited to carry it on to Kensi, but that doesn’t mean her whole basket has to revolve around it.
Kensi is becoming more and more girly with each passing day and really finding a love for her tutus, so I couldn’t not get her a pretty, fluffy, pettiskirt. She’s also obsessed with turning everything into a jumprope. Don’t ask how this got started or why, I really have no clue, we don’t even own a jumprope, but she’s pretty convinced that they’re the coolest thing in the world right now.

I’m so excited for Finnley to start holding objects and exploring new things. He’s been a little drool monster for weeks now and chewing on everything so a fun teether was a must for his basket. His basket is also a great way to start his own little stash of his very own things. So far he’s been given all of Kensi’s hand-me downs and it’s worked great, but he is a boy and we will begin working some more boyish things into our home.

This year I thought it would also be fun to do a basket for Mike and I. Just a few things to make our spring and little more bright and happy. We did purchase a second Solly wrap because they're flippin' awesome. And I totally wanted pink, regardless if Finn is being carried in it or not. I'm the girl and the one that gets to wear it, right? :)

Happy Easter basket filling!
